FAQ

Why should I have my text proofread?
Many departments require their students to write academic papers in English. Since writing more complex texts in a second or foreign language can be a challenge in both academia and business, using a professional proofreading service provides assurance that work will be submitted that is flawless on a linguistic level.
You can have your scientific work proofread without concerns, as corrections of spelling and grammar, stylistic changes, checking the consistency of the citation style, etc. do not change the content and your line of argumentation.

Please note that proofreading can neither validate the content of your literature review nor empirical-methodological approaches.
What is the process?
For your individual offer, I need the number of characters in your text and what type of text it is. You can also send me your complete text by e-mail (Word, Pages or PDF file). Please also tell me the date by which you would like your text to be proofread, edited or translated. On the basis of your information, I will send you a non-binding offer with a cost estimate. Should you wish to accept the offer, I will start proofreading after receiving your confirmation. The duration of the proofreading depends on the size of the text and the services requested. After the proofreading is completed, I will send you the revised text. You will also receive the invoice by e-mail.
Vice versa also offers coaching on academic work. Academic coaching is worthwhile if your time is limited due to work commitments, if you are at the beginning of your academic career or if you are writing an academic paper for the first time. During coaching, we can work together on the following topics:
1. Techniques of topic identification, development and limitation
2. Research question(s)
3. Exposé
4. Literature research and research tools
5. Empirical approaches: qualitative and quantitative research
6. Structure and outline of a scientific paper
7. Scientific writing
8. Citations
9. Bibliography/References
Coaching sessions take place online. You are welcome to let me know your questions and send me your text in advance. Please remember to include the style sheet/stylistic guidelines of your department.
What costs can I expect?
Please refer to Services for a detailed list of all services and their prices for students, business and private customers.
How long does it take for my text to be processed?
Your text will be estimated according to its volume, the services you require and my current capacities. Of course, I will try to meet your time constraints. I can only determine the exact duration after reviewing your text. The deadline will be stated in the offer.
If it is a scientific paper, it is best to have your work corrected/edited as soon as possible (at least two weeks) before the deadline. Remember that you will need a few days to look at the suggested corrections and, if necessary, incorporate them into your work.
The following approximate time frames apply to the proofreading of
-
Bachelor's theses: approx. four working days
-
Master's theses: approx. six working days
-
Application documents, business letters, short advertising copies, parts of a website: approx. one working day
Which file format should my text have?
Word, Pages and PDF files are possible.
-
Word and Pages files can either be proofread using the "track changes" function or annotated using the comment function. With the first option, you receive two files: In one file, all changes are clearly visible and in the second file, the changes have already been applied.
-
The second option uses the comment function: The text is annotated and you still have to incorporate the desired changes. The comment function is especially helpful during editing to clarify ambiguities, explain terms, suggest synonyms in case of repetitions, etc.
-
If you prefer to submit a PDF file, the notes function is used to make all changes, corrections and comments. Similar to the comment function in Word and Pages, the desired changes still have to be incorporated by you (or the graphics department in the case of companies).
Does vice versa offer trial proofreading?
Yes, vice versa offers you a free proofreading of up to one page (approx. 2500 characters with spaces). A trial proofreading gives you the opportunity to see whether my proofreading meets your expectations and gives me an insight into the type of text, your writing style and ideas for the final version. If you are no longer interested after the proofreading, your text will of course be deleted.
Will my texts and data be treated confidentially?
Yes, of course. Your texts, data and our correpsondence will be treated strictly confidential and will not be passed on to third parties.
